Sociodemographic characterization of alcoholic patients admitted for treatment of addiction

ABSTRACT
Introduction: currently, alcohol consumption is a serious problem worldwide, as it is considered a drug capable of destroying human beings in their physical, mental, social and spiritual integrity. Objective: to characterize sociodemographically the alcoholic patients admitted for treatment of addiction in a addiction service. Material and methods: a retrospective descriptive observational study was carried out on alcoholic patients admitted for treatment of addiction from January to December 2017. The study sample consisted of 34 patients. Results: 100% of the patients were male. The predominant age was between 50-59 years with 29.4 %. 73.5 % of the patients were of urban origin. Most of the patients had the finished pre-university educational level, representing 41.2 % of the total. 55.9 % of the patients were without an employment relationship. The most frequent marital status was that of a bachelor, represented by 67.6 % of the total. 61.8 % of the patients admitted to being alcoholics. The sociocultural route was the most widely used initiation and maintenance route with 50% of the total. Conclusions: all the patients were male, predominantly the age between 50-59, of urban origin, with finished pre-university educational level, without work ties and single. Most of the patients admitted to being alcoholics. The sociocultural route was the initiation and maintenance of the most used consumption.REFERENCES
