ABSTRACT
Organophosphates are one of the most widely used insecticides in
agriculture and domestic use, poisonings occur from occupational exposure
and from voluntary intake. It works by developing its toxicity in the nerve
endings through the hydrolysis of acetylcholine, the enzyme responsible for
hydrolyzing acetylcholine. The clinical picture generates a characteristic
syndrome, with cholinergic symptoms (bronchorrhea, salivation, tearing,
bronchospasm, defecation, emesis, miosis, among others) due to the
stimulation of muscarinic and nicotinic receptors. Diagnosis is made through
a medical history and physical examination. Additionally, you can help with
cabinet exams like detecting metabolites in the urine. Currently treatment
Intoxi includes decontamination measures, ventilatory support, and
pharmacological treatment, which includes the use of atropine, pralidoxime,
and diazepam. In addition, it is supported by the use of rhubarb as an
adjuvant. Proper management of these patients can mean the difference
between life and death, so it is important that all emergency personnel are
trained to recognize the clinical picture.
