ABSTRACT

Neurosurgery is a medical specialty little known and highly prestigious in Cuba, for this reason the present bibliographical review was carried out with the objective of characterizing its historical development in Cuba, for which 9bibliographies were reviewed concluding that after the triumph of the Revolution Neurosurgery went through several stages in which it is consolidated and expanded throughout the country. The evolution of the specialty in Cuba has been addressed in stages that are linked to the historical development of public health, and are particularized according to various aspects: the performance of several notable neurosurgeons, the founding of specialized institutions, the training and distribution of neurosurgeons, the introduction of advanced services. The main achievements of Cuban Neurosurgery, support for internationalism and teaching are specified.
