ABSTRACT
Introduction: at present the accelerated aging population constitutes a worry for different countries, between the ones that Cuba finds. The realization of promotional activities of oral health directed to the elders makes possible the continuous improvement in the general well-being of this population group.Objective: evaluating the effectiveness of an educational guided intervention the promotion of oral health in the elders.
Material and Methods: a non-observational quasi-experimental of before-later without control group study between December 2017-April 2018 in the adult elders of grandparent’s house of Banes. Sex, level of information on the oral health care, noxious habits and effectiveness of the educational program, they constituted the variables of the study. As from the obtained information, the educational program was planned and applied, (“Sonreír con experiencia”) “Smiling with experience”.
before intervention, the participants did not maintain suitable conducts for the oral health care and scarce knowledge about the risk factors of the mouth cancer. The program offers actions to foment the care of the stomatognathic system, information on the harmful effects of the habits that predispose to contract oral diseases, the realization of self-examination, everything conceived for the elders and its family, turning out well that they acquire knowledge regarding care and prevention of oral diseases and that become promoters at its homes.
Conclusions: the educational intervention allowed lifting the level of information and the practices led to prevent the appearing of oral diseases in this population group. Educational intervention directed to the oral health promotion in elders.
