ABSTRACT
Background. Chronic ankle pain has many etiologies as repetitive sprains, tarsal
tunnel syndrome, anterolateral impingement, chondral and tendinous lesions. Achilles,
tibialis posterior, flexor hallucis longus and peroneal tendons lesions has been
associate with ankle pain. The incidence of peroneal tendon lesions has been reported
as 11 to 26% of all the tendinous lesions that produce chronic ankle pain.
Case report.
We present a case report with a transverse rupture of the peroneus longus tendon and a
longitudinal tear of the peroneus brevis tendon at the level of the fibular groove.
Discussion. The goal of the treatment is the identification of the etiology and the
correction of aggregated pathologies as instability or anatomic changes (giant lateral
malleolus, os peroneum syndrome, os peroneum fractures, flat fibular groove, osteofites
on the fibular groove and peroneal reticulum laxity).
