ABSTRACT
Introduction: colorectal cancer, represent one of the causes of death with the highest incidence rate worldwide, it is proposed that the first-line detection method is colonoscopy, however, the examination of the colon by computerized tomography with hydro enema technique and intravenous contrast, represents an useful method for the detection of disease.
Objective: to describe the usefulness of the computed tomography hydro enema technique for the diagnosis of tumors of the colon.
Development: computed tomography with hydro enema technique is a study that combines water as a negative contrast, administered by anorectal route and images of abdomen and pelvis of high resolution. This technique provides an enhancement of the colon wall, which makes it possible to visualize the local growth of tumor and polypoids lesions.
Conclusions: the study of colon lesions by computerized tomography with hydro enema technique is a simple and safe method, useful for the diagnosis of tumor lesions through which it is possible to perform the stage of the disease.
