ABSTRACT
Introduction: the accommodative dysfunctions and non strabic binoculars, are given by the difficulty of the visual system, to respond adequately when great efforts are needed for the tasks in near vision. Objective: to characterize clinically and epidemiologically accommodation dysfunctions and non-strabic binoculars between 16 and 35 years old. Methods: a descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2017 to August 2018. The universe consisted of 30 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A complete optometric examination was performed, including the accommodative system and binocular vision. Results: female predominance (70%), ages between 16 and 20 years (33.3%) and student occupation (43.3%). Simple Myopic Astigmatism was the most common ametropia (20%) of ametropic eyes, the most frequent symptoms and signs were headache and blurred vision. Non-strabismic accommodative and/or binocular dysfunctions were present in 89.6% of patients, with simple form predominating, with convergence insufficiency (53.8%) and accommodation insufficiency (38.5%) being the most prevalent. Conclusions: the female sex, the 16-20 age group and student occupation were the most affected. Simple Myopic Astigmatism was the most common ametropia. Headache and blurred vision were the most frequent symptoms and signs. Non-strabismic accommodative and/or binocular dysfunctions were present in most patients, with convergence insufficiency and accommodative insufficiency being the most prevalent.REFERENCES
