ABSTRACT
Introduction: Ankle fractures are an important cause of disability leave due to the functional limitation it causes. In cases of occupational accidents, it can lead to partial permanent disability secondary to fracture sequels.
Objective: To determine the frequency of labor reinstatement in patients with ankle fracture due to occupational risk in the general hospital of zone N° 30 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security.
Material and method: Descriptive and retrospective of workers with ankle fracture secondary to occupational risk registered during 2014-2016. The measures of central tendency, frequencies and percentages were determined by descriptive statistics using the SPSS 21 program.
Results: A total of 55 (0,8 %) ankle fractures due to occupational risk were identified; 73% were men and mean age was (39,68 ± 11,48) years. The most frequent type of occupational risk was the work accident and the most common mechanisms of fracture were falls and traffic accidents. The most common type of fracture was AO 44-B2 (40 %). 80 % of patients were reintegrated. 29 % of patients had sequels and were granted partial permanent disability; of these, 31 % were still on leave.
Conclusion: Majority of the patients with ankle fracture secondary to occupational risk were able to return to work, 69 % of patients with partial permanent disability compensation are found to be work active, despite having an ankle limitation.
