ABSTRACT
The Zika virus is a flavivirus of the Flaviviridae family. It was first isolated in 1947, in the Zika forest in Uganda. It was identified in America in 2014 on Easter Island, Chile. Multiple studies show a strong association of the infection during pregnancy and a predilection for neural tissue, increasing the risk of fetal malformations, of which microcephaly has been the predominant finding. However, many other clinical and imaging manifestations can be found and included in the so-called congenital Zika syndrome. Infection of the fetus should occur during the first trimester, where the trophoblast is more permissive for the zika virus than in the third trimester, a period in which there is greater production of INF λ l, a protective factor against Zika virus infection. For this reason, WHO declared it a public health and national interest emergency in 2016.REFERENCES
