ABSTRACT
Introduction: Non-traumatic spinal pain is usually mixed with added muscle contracture. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of diclofenac, complex B and muscle relaxant thiocolchicoside, in treating non-traumatic spine pain.
Methods: A double-blind, controlled, multicenter, randomized study was arried out in two groups. Thiocolchicoside, diclofenac and vitamins B were applied to group 1 and diclofenac and vitamins B to group 2. The dose was 1 tablet every 12 hours during 48 hours.
Assessments: Evolution of pain, degree of pain relief, contracture and functionality, fingertips to floor distance, overall doctor and patient satisfaction, need for continuity of treatment and adverse reactions.
Results: 148 patients were analyzed: 74 in group 1 and 74 in group 2. The decrease and degree of pain relief, reduction of contracture and overall patient and researcher satisfaction were statistically significant in favor of group 1. Assessment of functionality and mobility in low back pain were better in group 1 with no statistically significant difference. At 48 hours, 93.2% of group 1 and 79.2% of group 2 stopped treatment for sufficient pain relief. Adverse reactions were minimal in both groups.
Conclusions: Treatment with thiocolchicoside, diclofenac and vitamins B is more effective and quicker to achieve an analgesic effect than with diclofenac and B complex. The validity of adding a muscle relaxant in a treatment using anti-inflammatory and B vitamins is demonstrated.
