ABSTRACT
A prospective, single blind, cohort study was done. Following American football players of a “Major League” team in Mexico. Two first team groups were formed at random. One with taping of their ankles before practice or games. And the second group without taping but with extra exercises of the foot and ankle. The players were followed for one season for the incidence of ankle sprains. The results showed a tendency to have more lesions without tape, but the difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.52). Important difference was noted related to the position of the player in the field and the number of seasons played.
