ABSTRACT
Introduction: In every drugstore are received, stored and distributed pharmaceutical products coming from domestic and foreign suppliers. The reception is a key step in the process of medicines distribution.Objective: To develop a method of receipt by weighing in Cienfuegos drugstore to decrease the handling of pharmaceutical products, the time of reception and the use of the labour force, in order to achieve greater levels of efficiency in the reception of medicines.
Methods: The research developed a method of reception from the relationship between the weight of the packaging and the physical units that contain it. The study covered the period from January 2015 to December 2017. The results were processed using tools such as Microsoft Excel 2013, and queries to the computerised system called MISTRAL Caribe.
Results: The comparison of methods showed that the time of receipt by weighing is significantly lower than the detailed reception, with a difference greater than 10 min-man/package. The handlers were reduced from the area to 50 %, moving them to other activities. It was obtained a 0.02 % of total failures with regard to purchases and a 92 % of customer satisfaction.
Conclusions: The implemented method is efficient, decreases the costs and the labour force; it reduces the time of reception without affecting the quality of the process and customer satisfaction, which contributes to improve the distribution of medicines.
