ABSTRACT
Introduction: Mobile health is an economical way to improve patients control and monitoring, and can help optimize healthcare in a medical center. However, its potential has not yet been fully studied.
Objective: To present the effects of using the mobile application VILLAHEALTH on the behavior and performance of nursing personnel.
Methods: Systematic observation of health staff in their daily tasks. Eight nurses who had a mobile device and who were familiar with the Android application were chosen. This application is used to store health situations, treatments, and basic information about the patient, and also schedules tasks with notifications shown in the cellular calendar. The response times were measured and compared with and without the help of the application.
Results: With the application notifications, 77.08% of the time, the tasks were started 5 minutes before their scheduled time, compared to 25.00%, started without their help. The mean response time with the application was 105.18 (± 86.08) seconds, whereas without the application it was 616.72 (± 223.30) seconds.
Conclusion: With the application VILLAHEALTH, users strated their activities in the first five minutes after the time established, in comparison to the 10 minutes without it. In addition, the application helped the nursing staff reduce their response times for treating patients.
