ABSTRACT
The percutaneous nephrostomy, is a minimal invasive procedure that is used as diagnosis, as well as therapeutic. This procedure consists of the positioning of a catheter to the renal collector system by means of a puntion through the skin. The main indications to perform the percutaneous nephrostomy are the ureteral obstructions (like pelvic tumors or ganglionary conglomerates or by benign causes like ureteral litiasis or ureteral estenosis post-radiation). Usually it is made when the obstruction is taking to deterioration of the renal function, but that this is reversible. The smaller complications of this procedure do not require a treatment, between the serious complications is the sepsis and the reported mortality of this procedure is from 0.046% to 0.3%. The adequate selection of the patients who are going under this procedure can maximize the benefit and diminish the complications.
