ABSTRACT
Introduction: There are multiple pathologies for which patients suffer instability. With aging, changes are gradually and progressively presented in all our body cells, losing our functional capacity or initiating an abnormal functioning process.
Objective: Effect of the rehabilitation program with Tai Ji Quan in patients with alterations of balance, in the Central Military Hospital.
Material and methods: Pilot study; Longitudinal, Clinical Trial, Prospective, Analytical. Patients referred to the Vestibular Rehabilitation area due to dizziness, vertigo and instability, received 12 therapy sessions with Tai Ji Quan; documenting the gain of the ocular vestibule reflex by means of the video assisted cephalic impulse test, as well as the scores obtained in the Dizziness Handicap Inventory, before and after the indicated therapy, from July to October 2018.
Results: 11 female patients completed the study; average age of 60 to 70 years; Main diagnosis: instability; there was improvement in the 3 spheres of evaluation of the questionnaire, as well as in the Gain of the vestibulo ocular reflex, with statistically significant difference.
Conclusions: The Tai Ji Quan showed a beneficial effect by promoting the decrease in disability perceived by the patient, as well as significant improvement in the vestibuloocular reflex gains.
