Recommendations and strategies to prevent 2019-nCoV transmission in dental practice

ABSTRACT

The World Health Organization has considered the 2019-nCoV infection as a global public health emergency. The first cases in Mexico were confirmed in February 2020. Signs and symptoms of infection include fever, respiratory disease, pneumonia, kidney failure and death. Healthcare centers are often sites of exposure to infections. The transmission of 2019-nCoV by droplets and aerosols in the dental practice is expected. Dental patients and professionals can be infected as a result of exposure to pathogenic microorganisms located on the oral cavity and the respiratory tract. This document describes dental practice recommendations and strategies to prevent 2019-nCoV transmission.
