ABSTRACT
The increase in the global prevalence of Human Immunodeficiency Virus,
likewise the increase in cardiovascular manifestations associated with this
disease are relevant issues in current medicine. The Human
Immunodeficiency Virus changes in its epidemiology, transforming from an
acute disease to a chronic disease. Thanks in part to the new generation of
antiretrovirals, which produce fewer side effects, and also show an
improvement in adherence to treatment that results in a life expectancy
close to the general population. The control and treatment of cardiovascular
risk factors are fundamental in therapeutic treatment. Patients with optimal
treatment do not have a worse prognosis than the population without
infection, but have an increase in the rate of recurrence of cardiovascular
complications.
