Epidemiological characterization of population aging in a health area. October to December 2017

ABSTRACT
Objective: to characterize epidemiologically the population aging in the health area of Medical Office 4 during October to December 2017.Materials and Methods: a descriptive and transversal research was carried out in the Medical Clinic 4 belonging to the “Pedro Borrás Astorga” University Polyclinic in the city of Pinar del Río, Cuba, from October to December 2017. The universe consisted of 113 adult’s seniors belonging to said health area and the sample was made up of 73 of them. The bioethical principles of the research were taken into account, while the results were expressed in absolute and relative frequencies through tables and statistical graphs.
Results: Older adults aged between 80 and 89 years (56.1%) predominated in the research. The groups of medications most consumed were vitamins (82.1%), sedative-hypnotics (56.1%) and antihypertensive drugs (43.8%). The most frequent diseases were: hypertension (64.3%), cerebrovascular disease (35.6%) and psychiatric illness (24.6%).
Conclusions: the incidence of clinical-epidemiological aspects related to the population aging of the Medical Office 4 requires an integral conception and medical attention that ensures a higher quality of life and satisfaction of the elderly.
