ABSTRACT
Objective: to evaluate the clinical epidemiological characteristics and the result of the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in the groups of new cases and retreatment, as well as the factors associated with the abandonment of antibacillary treatment in the Sanatorium Hospital of Luanda in the period 2014 and 2015 constitutes the objective of the present investigation.Method: a descriptive, transversal investigation with an analytical component was carried out, for which a probabilistic sample of 400 cases divided into two groups in a 1:1 ratio was taken. The data was taken from the individual medical records.
Results: the retreatment group had a higher average age, 35.2 (SD ± 11.5) years. The male gender was the majority in both groups. Among the factors associated only HIV/AIDS showed significant differences. Among the groups with predominance in the new cases, four of the clinical manifestations showed significant differences. Hemoptysis, adenomegaly and dyspnea predominated in cases of retreatment. Positive sputum smear was greater in both groups. The complete treatment reached 61.0% in new cases and 42,0% in cases of retreatment. The abandonment of treatment was greater than 30% in both groups. Alcoholism showed association with dropout, adjusted OR: 1.90 (1.14-3.17).
Conclusions: the cases of retreatment with respect to new cases were older, fewer TB/HIV coinfected and clinical characteristics of chronic tuberculosis, with less successful antibacillary treatment results.
