Factors related to overweight in the school environment

ABSTRACT
Introduction: it is stated that overweight in semi internal pupils in Manzanillo constitutes an incipient and complex health problem and there is insufficient perception of the same.Objective: to identify the risk factors of overweight pupils in two semi internal schools of the Manzanillo city, Granma province, during the period September-October, 2018.
Methods: a descriptive and cross section research whose universe was constituted by overweight and obese students in ages out of six and twelve years old, in two semi internal schools of the city during the period September-October, 2018. The data registered in a Microsoft Excel base were processed using distributions of absolute and relative frequencies for their representation in contingency charts. In the association analysis among qualitative variables it was applied the Chi square non parametric independence test and the exact test of Fisher. For the quantitative variables it was used the parametric test t of Student, a previous analysis of homogeneity of variances.
Results: the factors of risks that condition the obesity include the genetic inheritance; the behavior of the nervous, endocrine and metabolic system; and the type or lifestyle that it is taken.
Conclusions: it is stated that overweight in semi internal pupils being required new strategies to solve it. It is recommended to design an intervention program in alimentary education and to increase the hours of the children's physical activity in the school and the home.
