Rectal prolapse

ABSTRACT
We report a case of rectal prolapse, who arrived to the emergency service, where, despite of the usual manubries, was unable to reduce it, he was carried to the operating room and under regional anaesthesia (epidural block) the attempt to reduce the prolapse was unsuccessful, developing in the next hours edema, ischemia and ulceration of the rectal mucosa, having the need of perform a perineal approach, such as a perineal rectosigmoidectomy or Altemeier procedure, along with levatoroplasty. The different alternatives in the management of rectal procidence, as well as the advantages, indications and contraindications are presented and discuss in the present job.
