ABSTRACT
People are more and more accepting the thanatologic support in order to overcome mourning produced by illness or a dear relation or relative loss. The National Institute of Cardiology “Ignacio Chávez”, through the Infirmary Direction, has established the Clinic of Thanatology in order to offer support to hospitalized patients and their families. In this study, a group of patients being in hospital, suffering from arterial pulmonary hypertension and having experience the loss of a dear relative, was given support. These patients have asked for the mentioned support. Objective: To favor the mourning process in a supporting group. Methodology: It was performed an intervention in order to allow the group to express emotions and feelings, thoughts and fears in front of a mate’s death, and identify the kind of loss and individual mourning. Results: A 62.5% of the integrants were from the female sex; a 43.7% were patients and a 56.3% relatives; a 75% of them have met the dead person; the emotions or feelings that stood out were impotence, rage or frustration in the 43.7% of the participants. The experience demonstrated that after the event, the participants valued life, their relatives and friends in a greater way. Conclusions: This experience allowed us to know the reactions of patients, relatives and friends when facing a mate’s death and the importance of informing them when a mate’s death occurs and favoring the mourning process.REFERENCES
