ABSTRACT
We introduce a case of a 40-year-old male with diagnosis of treatment-resistant schizophrenia, who in his psychiatric hospitalization received treatment with clozapine and had increased counts of leukocytes and platelets as doses of clozapine were increased. The clozapine doses were gradually descended, noticing a parallel decrease in leukocytes and platelets counts at doses of 50 mg per day. The clinical condition of the patient required are-challenge with the same drug, and in the second round of treatment with gradual increases in doses, there were no alterations in the hematologic profile. Thrombocytosis is a rare hematologic effect observed with the use of the medication. There are few reports in the literature about this disorder, and an idiosyncratic immunologic response to the drug has been theorized as the cause.REFERENCES
