ABSTRACT

Introduction: The prevalence of schizophrenia is about 0.55-1% worldwide. In recent years there has been an effort to detect the sign and sympotms of the disease as earlier as posible in the setting of primary attention services. Non Treated Duration of Psychoses (NTDP) is a relevant pronostic factor in schizophrenia patients. There are few studies about this topic in mexican population. Objective: To identifiy duration of Non Treated Duration of Psychoses in psychotic disordes (non afective), and sociodemographic profile of patients. Materials and methods: A non probabilistic sample of 100 clinical files were selected from the ambulatory services at the Hospital Psiquiátrico Fray Bernardino Álvarez in México City, there were 50%males and 50% females. Results: The mean age of first signs or symptoms of disease in women were 21.5+/- 5.3 years old and the mean duration of NTDP was 42.7+/-48.8 months. In men the mean age of first signs and symptoms of disease were 18.7+/- 4.4 years and the mean duration of NTDP of 36.9+/- 30.5 months. Conclusions: This study remarks the fact that patiens, their family and physicians of primary attention services do not identifiy early signs and symptoms of psychotic disorders and delay their proper atention.
