ABSTRACT
Anatomical variations of the first upper molar most often include the presence of a second canal in the mesial root. However, some studies report the presence of two canals in the palatine root (0.04% of the total upper molars). A case of a first upper molar with a diagnosis of pulp necrosis with symptomatic apical periodontitis is presented. Upon exploration of the pulp chamber floor, two canal entries were found in the palatine root region. Root canal length and taper were assessed by radiography, and obturation test was performed. The relevance of diagnostic imaging assistants as aids for the detection of locoregional anatomical variants is emphasized.
