Premalignant buccal diseases in elder patients from Pedro Borrá s Astorga Polyclinic Pinar del Río, Cuba

ABSTRACT
Introduction: premalignant bucal lesions detection in elder patients, favors early identification of important buccal mucosa alterations and buccal cancer.Objective: to characterize premalignant buccal diseases in elder patients, at “Pedro Borrás Astorga” policlinic.
Methods: a descriptive, transversal and retrospective study was carried out at “Pedro Borrás Astorga”policlinic, during 2016. Universe was 91 elders with premalignant buccal diseases, previously identified at stomatological services. From this group, 54 patients were chosen at random. Results were presented in pictures and in relative or absolute numbered graphics for análisis and discusion.
Results: smoking habit was the predominant risk factor with a 55.5%. Buccal disease was frequent in exfoliated buccal mucosa with 51.8%. Leucoplasia prevaled over 61.1% of elders. According to sex and age group variables, we found that females and the age group from 70 to 79, were the most affected.
Conclusions: premalignant buccal diseases were characterized for their accurate diagnosis, adequate managment and prevention programs, all carried out at this policlinic.
