The hemodynamic challenge: pheochromocytoma and anesthetic management

ABSTRACT

Pheochromocytoma is a neuroendocrine tumor producing catecholamines, this tumor generates serious repercussions in different systems of the body. Palpitations, headache and sweating is the classic triad where all health personnel should take into account to suspect this pathology. Plasma metanephrine levels is the most suitable method for the diagnosis of this pathology. The correct pre-anesthetic and operative evaluation is vital to avoid complications that can be fatal in the patient's life. The administration of drugs such as phenoxybenzamine, beta blockers and calcium antagonists can achieve hemodynamic stability and prevent the death of many patients.
