First report of Metastrongyloidea (Strongyluris larvae) estrongylidia larvae in Achatina (Lissachatina) fulica (Mollusca, Achatinidae) in the municipality of Regla, Havana, Cuba

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The African giant snail (L. fulica) was introduced in Cuba in 2014 and it was extended all over the country. There are few evidences about the infestation of this mollusk by Angiostrongylus cantonensis in Havana. Objective: To report estrongylidios Metastrongyloidea (Strongyluris larvae) in Achatina (Lissachatina) fulica snails (Mollusca, Achatinidae) in Regla municipality, Havana, Cuba. Materials and methods: It was collected snails from known previous places with large quantites of them. Lobato-Paraense modified method was employed to detect larvae under lab conditions. Results: 50 % of collected snails was infected with strongylidios in the more aged ones. Conclusions: It was reported for the first time in this area infected snails with strongylidios and it constitutes an alert because of the potential transmission to man that produce eosinophilic meningoencephalitis.REFERENCES
