ABSTRACT
The use of novel endoscopic imaging techniques and respective stains of the digestive mucosa together with the collegiate
work of endoscopists and pathologists has improved the diagnostic performance of these lesions; as well as, it has been the
source of new classifications to have a more complete and integral conception of the dynamics: premalignant lesions-digestive
cancer. An exhaustive literature review was performed using the descriptors: flat mucosal lesions and dysplasia; with the aim
of identifying the relationship in the dynamics of gastrointestinal cancer of flat mucosal lesions and the presence of dysplasia.
The search strategy was: flat lesions AND dysplasia and flat lesions AND early cancer. The most novel aspects of the current
classifications that involve both aspects were presented in tabular form: endoscopic and histological. It was concluded that
the in-depth knowledge of the aspects related to the pair: flat lesions-dysplasia, in the light of the new endoscopic technologies,
constitutes one of the core factors that can contribute to a greater suspicion and earlier detection of cancer of digestive origin,
an effective treatment and timely follow-up of these patients, with a view to reducing morbidity and mortality in the same
country in Cuba.
