ABSTRACT
Granular cell tumors (GCT) are rare benign tumors derived from Schwann cells that can affect different organs and tissues. They are most common in women between the fourth and sixth decades of life, with a female-to-male ratio of 3:1. Clinically they are presented as a solitary neoformation of slow growth, papulo-nodular aspect, between 0.5 to 3 centimeters, smooth surface, pink or brown color, firm consistency, located mainly in head and neck. The diagnosis is made with histological and immunohistochemical study. Currently the treatment of choice is surgical resection with wide borders. The prognosis is generally favorable, although there is a 2% risk of malignancy. We present the case of a 71 year old female patient with a 6 x 4 cm trunk tumour of four years of evolution. Complete excision of the tumor was performed, with diagnosis of GCT in histological examination, with positivity for S100 and antibodies CD68 and negative Ki-67 in immunohistochemistry.
