ABSTRACT
Introduction: Prostatic transglutaminase is a protein with an exclusive expression in the prostate. Even
though its function has not been fully clarified, there are many studies on its implications in processes
such as the aggressiveness of cancer cells. Current knowledge on it allows setting hypotheses for new and
more advanced researches in this field.
Objective: To describe the biochemical aspects and clinical implications of prostatic transglutaminase.
Methods: A search was made in the national and international literature in English and Spanish through some databases as MEDLINE/PubMed, ELSEVIER, SciELO, EBSCO, Hinari and Google Schcolar. There were consulted a total of 29 documents that were published between 2003 and 2018.
Conclusions: The prostate-restricted expression of prostatic transglutaminase raises the
possibility of a new target for prostate cancer.
