Characterization of patients over 60 years occasioned by mechanical intestinal occlusion

ABSTRACT
Introduction: the number of patients older than 60 years who have an acute surgical abdomen has increased in the last decades, being the mechanical intestinal occlusion a condition of those that occur with greater frequency. Objective: to characterize the patients older than 60 years operated with diagnosis of mechanical intestinal occlusion in the Teaching Surgical Clinical Hospital "Dr. Salvador Allende "from January 2015 to December 2017. Method: a descriptive cross-sectional study of the patients operated on with a diagnosis of mechanical intestinal occlusion of 124 patients operated on with this diagnosis was made at the Teaching Surgical Clinical Hospital" Dr. Salvador Allende "of Havana in the period before exposed. The variables were analyzed: age, sex, time between the beginning of the clinical manifestations and arrival at the hospital, type of occlusion, etiology, postoperative complications and cause of death. Results: the group of patients of 80-90 years prevailed and the feminine sex, the most frequent etiology were the flanges that affected the low small intestine. 93.5% of the patients came to the hospital 24 hours after the onset of symptoms; the most frequent complication that appeared was bronchopneumonia. 4.83% died, peritonitis and septic shock were its main causes. Conclusions: the characterization of patients older than 60 years operated by intestinal collusion in the hospital under study was carried out, identifying the main causes of death.REFERENCES
