ABSTRACT
Introduction: lung cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Cuba. The histological variant of non-small cells are the most frequent malignant tumors. More than half of the cases diagnosed are in advanced stages where the oncological theraphy is fundamentally based on polychemotheraphy. Objectives: to evaluate the clinical and imaging evolution of patients with stage III B non-small cell lung cancer treated with polychemoteraphy. Methods: an analytical observational study was conducted to evaluate the therapeutic response in 73 patients with stage III B non-small cell lung cancer treated with polychemotheraphy at the Pulmonary “Benefico Juridico” Hospital in the period from January 2015 to December 2017. The universe was the totality of patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. Functional variables, clinical manifestations and objective antitumor response were compared. Results: predominantly male patients (67,75%) and over 60 years old. Oncological treatment with polychemotheraphy significantly reduced weight loss and chest pain. There was a progressive worsening of functional status after treatment. Although the majority of patients showed some objective antitumor response, the remaining 43,8 % were in progression of the disease. Conclusions: the treatment with polychemotherapy reduced some of the symptoms, but it was not related to an improvement in the functional status. More than half of the patients were stable or with an objective antitumor response.REFERENCES
