ABSTRACT
Objectives: To evaluate
in vitro the antimicrobial action of Guedes-Pinto root canal filling material modified with Diprogenta
® and Otosporin
®, comparing them with the conventional Guedes-Pinto paste.
Methodology: The antimicrobial action of the root canal filling material was tested against strains isolated from the following microorganisms:
Streptococcus mutans ATCC 25175,
Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923,
Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212,
Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 4116,
Candida albicans ATCC 10231. The technique of agar diffusion by the well method and in triplicate, using 0.12% chlorhexidine digluconate as positive control and saline solution as negative control. 2mL of the inoculum produced from each microorganism was transferred to 100mL of molten agar at 45 ° C, dispensing the mixture into 30 petri dishes. These were maintained at room temperature for two hours and then incubated at 35 ° C for 24 and 48 hours. The reading of the results was submitted to Analysis of one-way variance and Tukey's test for multiple comparisons.
Results: The Guedes-Pinto Conventional paste formed the largest inhibition halos for the most Latinoamericanamicroorganisms, except for
Candida albicans, where none of the substances had any effect and
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, for which Diprogenta
® modified paste obtained better results, although there was no statistical difference between them. The paste with Diprogenta
® presented better results than that with Otosporin
® for all other microorganisms, except
Enterococcus faecalis.
Conclusion: The use of Rifocort
® substitutes seems to have an effective antimicrobial potential against the main microorganisms found in root canals.
