ABSTRACT
Introduction: Infections of the genital tract are important cause of infertility. The genital Mycoplasmas are added to the wide variety of microorganisms that produce this condition. Objective: To characterize female patients with a diagnosis of Mycoplasma infection, assisted in the provincial infertility clinic at Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso General Hospital.
Methods: A prospective and descriptive study was carried out from January to June 2017. Forty-three patients positive to MYCO WELL D-ONE diagnostic kit form the universe. The variables under study were age, previous diagnosis of gynecological diseases, identified Mycoplasma species and antimicrobial resistance and treatment. Graphs and tables showed the results.
Results: The highest percent of patients were in the age group 36 - 40 (44, 2) %. 74.4% of the total (n= 32) had previous diagnosis of reproductive-system conditions, tubal obstruction predominated (62, 5 %). 90, 6 % (n= 39) had diagnosis of U. urealyticum/parvum infection. A hundred percent of the identified M. hominis and the combination of both germs and 55.6% of the U. urealyticum were resistant to at least one antimicrobial. The resistance was higher against the tetracyclines.
Conclusions: U. urealyticum/parvum is the most frequently identified mycoplasma species in women attending infertility consultations. Infections prevail over 35 and the resistance of mycoplasma is noticeable primarily against the group of tetracyclines.
