ABSTRACT
Oral breathing syndrome is known as the difficulty of breathing physiologically through the nose and is known as one of the most common habits, leading to organic deficiencies. Functional myotherapy includes a set of procedures and techniques used in the correction of orofacial muscle imbalance, normalization of muscular behavior, reduction of harmful habits and improvement of the patient's aesthetics.
Case description: The case of a seemingly healthy 9-year-old female patient is presented, she attends the post-graduate clinic of Pediatric Dentistry of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa. The clinical examination presents adenoid facies, lumbar lordosis, oral breathing habit and atypical swallowing. In the intraoral examination, poor oral hygiene, multiple carious lesions, maxillary collapse, over 9 mm jet, premature loss of dental organs were observed. In his speech therapy evaluation, he presented only respiratory problems and nasalized speech, the evaluation of the department of Otolaryngologist was adenoid hypertrophy and septal deviation.
Discussion: After the review of some publications. We agree that myofunctional therapy is an effective alternative for the treatment of stomatognathic system abnormalities.
