ABSTRACT
The loss alveolar bone volume after a tooh extraction occurs as a physiological process of atrophy, however, it also ocurrs due to periodontal disease, dental pathologies and dental trauma. Bone augmentation procedures are necessary when there is a high percentage of bone loss, when the primary stability of the implant can not be achieved or when there are anatomical limitations and technical difficulties for the rehabilitation of edentulous areas. The use of resorbable biomaterials used as scaffolds, has been the fundamental pilar of the regenerative practices contemplated in the engineering of tissues, because they allow to guide this process of regeneration, isolating the cells that should not participate in it, serving as a matrix in the that the cells find a place to adhere, proliferate and specialize to form bone tissue.
