ABSTRACT
The cleft lip palate is the second most common craniofacial malformation that affects biological, psychological and social live produced by a failure in the fusion that will give rise to the maxilla and the palate. The worldwide incidence is 1.7 for each 1000 children and in Mexico until 2014 of 5.3 by 10.000 births. The treatment of this anomaly is complex, requires a multidisciplinary team the initial stomatology treatment is presurgical orthopedics, proposed as an alternative for the alignment of alveolar ridges during the first days of life, However, the success of the treatment will have to go with the surgical technique. The PNAM consists of an intraoral appliance that molds the palate attached to a nasal device to improve the bridge of the nasal and alveolar cartilage.
Objective: To demonstrate the naso-alveolar changes in an incomplete unilateral fissure with the PNAM device in a newborn.
Clinical case: Male patient of 8 days of age with diagnosis of unilateral incomplete FLPNS of 9mm on the left side, impression was taken and the obturator was placed, after second week, the nasal conformer was placed. Results, after 13 weeks, the fissure decrease 6mm.
Conclusion: The remodeling with the PNAM of palatal processes in newborn patients with FLPNS is a pre-surgical orthopedic treatment that allows a better approach to the first surgical time.
