Multi-loculated hydrocephalus

ABSTRACT
Hydrocephalus is an entity defined as the increase in ventricular size, which is associated with intracranial hypertension, as a result of an imbalance between the production and reabsorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). In multilocular hydrocephalus, the formation of septum within the ventricular system makes adequate communication impossible. This is the case of a one-month-old patient with a history of prematurity, who develops hydrocephalus secondary to a germinal matrix hemorrhage. Hydrocephalus was managed with transfontanellar ventricular punctures with subsequent development of meningitis by
Streptococcus pneumoniae and posterior multiloculated hydrocephalus. Our objective is to present a case of multiloculated hydrocephalus to describe how to make its diagnosis, management algorithm and its surgical approach to solve the case.
