ABSTRACT
Arachnoid cysts are congenital lesions that probably arise from the division of the arachnoid membrane during early intrauterine life. These cysts contain a liquid which is very similar to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). For been lesions related to the central nervous system, they may also occur in the spinal cord. They are relatively common in the intracranial space (approximately 1% of the occupant lesions) and are frequently related to an arachnoid cistern. Usually, patients are asymptomatic, however, when they begin to complain, and depending on the localization of compromised structures, surgical intervention must be considered. We present the diagnosis and treatment of a 55 year old female patient, who consulted for headache with warning signs, associated with central vertigo and tinnitus. Imaging study was performed, finding a cystic lesion in the cerebellopontine angle compatible with an arachnoid cyst. For being symptomatic it was surgically treated through endoscopy approach. Our objective is to present an update on a diagnostic approach of patients with arachnoid cysts of the pontocerebellar angle, in addition to the usefulness of endoscopy for surgical management.
