ABSTRACT
Objective: To value the prevalence of Forestier-Rotes-Querol disease or diffuse idiopathic
skeletal hyperostosis, an ossification in the anterior longitudinal ligament and
calcifications in other enthesis.
Patients and Method: A review of clinic-radiologic findings in outpatients attended
at our Center for five years (from July 2013 to June 2018) bearing of a wide variety of
symptoms. Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis diagnosis was set up under Resnick
criteria.
Results: There were submitted to whole spine radiographies 819 individuals, detecting
diagnostic criteria in 122, with a male/female ratio of 2.69:1 and 60.19 ± 10.51 years
old. High dysphagia was the main consulting symptom, although the segment D7-D10
resulted the more involved spinal area. So, the period prevalence reached 14.8%. Two
cases improved after removing the new bone in neck.
Conclusion: Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis is a usual, systemic and asymptomatic
ankylosing ossification of joints. A few cases need surgery to relieve the
calcification processes.
