ABSTRACT
Introduction: Cardiac tumors are rare, 50% of cases are myxomas located in the left atrium.
Material and methods: Cardiovascular asymptomatic patient who observed left atrial growth in a preoperative evaluation of left atrial growth evaluated by echocardiography, compatible with atrial myxoma. The tumor was resected with a histopathological report of benign neoplastic lesion of mesenchymal lineage composed of a myxoid-type stroma, immunohistochemical staining, positive myxoid PASS.
Discussion: The diagnosis and characterization of cardiac tumors is a challenge in asymptomatic patients and there are only case reports in the literature.
Conclusions: Atrial myxoma is difficult to diagnose when there are no cardiac symptoms, therapeutic decisions are based on clinical criteria and image for evaluation and surgical planning.
