ABSTRACT
Palliative care is, according to the World Health Organization, the approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families who face the problems associated with life-threatening diseases, through the prevention and alleviation of suffering, through the early identification and impeccable evaluation and treatment of pain and other physical, psychological and spiritual problems. They are recognized in the context of the human right to health, however, the reference criteria and the appropriate evaluation methods for it are not clearly established or applied systematically. There are several useful tools that guide the doctor in his day to day to properly identify patients who need the approach.
