ABSTRACT
Background: Pyomyositis is an acute intramuscular bacterial infection of hematogenous
spread and usually secondary to
Staphylococcus aureus; it is more frequent
in patients with some type of immunocompromise and with less incidence in places
with temperate climates.
Clinical case: A male patient in the seventh decade of life who came to evaluation
due to an increase in volume in the right pelvic limb associated with pain that progressed
to be incapacitating. A diagnostic approach was started, meeting criteria of image and
microbiology consistent with pyomyositis.
Conclusions: Pyomyositis is rare in temperate climates, with a higher prevalence
in patients with some type of immunosuppression.
