ABSTRACT
The topical treatment of psoriasis is sometimes diffi cult due to the intolerance and secondary effects of the classic options. The present study was undertaken to confi rm the effi cacy of a topical preparation containing furfuril sorbitol, a substance with anti-infl ammatory and antioxidant properties, for the maintaining treatment of plaque-type psoriasis.Methods. Thirty patients with light or moderate plaque-type psoriasis were included in this blinded randomized and controlled with placebo study, with a 60 days follow-up. The cream was applied twice a day.
Results. A statistically signifi cative reduction of the PASI was shown, in relation to the placebo group, in the fourth and eighth week of treatment. The general evaluation of the effectivity of the treatment was positive, also signifi cative in relation to the placebo group. Nevertheless, no differences were found in the erythema, pruritus, desquamation nor infi ltration of the plaques. Tolerability was excellent.
Conclusions. The preparation containing furfuril sorbitol can be used as a maintaining complementary treatment in patents with plaque-type psoriasis.
