ABSTRACT
Introduction: Chronic antral gastritis due to Helicobacter pylori and gastroesophageal reflux disease are common conditions that can coexist. Objective: To determine the relationship between Chronic Antral Gastritis due to Helicobacter pylori and reflux. Methodological. Design: An analytical observational study of cases and controls was carried out during the period from January to December 2016. The study population was made up of 134 patients treated in the Gastroenterology Service of the General Martial Teaching Hospital of April 9 ”From Sagua la Grande, with endoscopy and diagnostic gastric biopsy of chronic antral gastritis and Helicobacter pylori infection. It worked with two groups: cases group with symptoms of reflux (59 patients); control group without reflux (75 patients). Results: The ages between 40-59 years, female sex and white skin color predominated in both groups. Higher proportion of patients with chronic quiescent antral gastritis with reflux 21 and 4 without reflux. Moderate lesion predominated in both groups: cases with 36, control with 39, without significant difference. The abundant density of colonization by Helicobacter pylori, control group: 34 patients, with very significant differences with the case group. Moderate density prevailed in reflux disease without esophagitis, with very significant differences with esophagitis. Conclusions: The greater proportion of chronic quiescent antral gastritis in patients with reflux and the prevalence of abundant and moderate density of colonization by Helicobacter pylori in patients without reflux support the possibility of a protective effect of Helicobacter pylori against reflux.REFERENCES
