ABSTRACT
We present the case of an 8-year-old male with osteoblastoma in the right side subcondylar region, associated with facial trauma. The patient had a trauma antecedent in the mental region at the age of three years, without presenting symptoms. Five years later, he started with limitation and deviation of the buccal opening to the left side, swelling and preauricular pain in the right side. Initially, he was treated as an soft tissues abscess, just with antibiotic therapy without improvement in symptoms. He is referred to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service in Centenario Miguel Hidalgo Hospital for a clinical examination. At the beginning, computed tomography and 3D reconstruction findings showed hyperdense lesion in the subcondylar region and posterior ramus of the right side, multilobulated, which contacts the anterior wall of the external canal. Surgical excision was performed under general anesthesia and sent to histopathological examination, which confirm benign osteoblastoma. Three weeks after, no recurrence of the osteoblastoma is observed in cone beam tomography, and total resection of the lesion was shown. Clinically, no limitation of buccal opening and slight mandibular deviation to the left side. The present case, shows the probable association of traumatisms as an etiological factor in the development of osteoblastomas in the subcondylar region.
