ABSTRACT
Introduction: Carbohydrate counting is a primary tool in which the amount of carbohydrates in food are count to estimate the amount of insulin that the patients need to apply themselves to have a better control over their glycemia. Objective: Evaluate to compare the knowledge in carbohydrate counting in “Campo Amigo 2017” generated during “Campo Amigo 2016” of “Asociación Mexicana de Diabetes en Nuevo León A.C.” in teenagers with Type 1 Diabetes. Material and method: A mixed, longitudinal, correlational and descriptive study with 24 teenagers, among 13 to 18 years old with DT1. The application on CC method was evaluated through a survey; analyzing weight, height, BMI, glycosylated hemoglobin and serum glucose. Frequency tables were created with two variables (Annual comparative) compared with other variables, with 95% reliability. Results and Discussion: Knowledge of the CC method was the same in 2016 vs 2017 with a mean of 71.04%, being high in adequate levels of glucose (76.26%) normal nutritional status (83%) and HbA1c out of range (85%). The teenagers applied the technique but reported not knowing it. Conclusions: The CC method is a useful tool but requires continuous education; A greater knowledge of the method of CC suitable control parameters.REFERENCES
