ABSTRACT
Objective: The mean objective is the knowledge of the lymphatic nodule fine needle aspiration biopsy correlation, specificity and sensibility of malignant and benign diseases.
Material and Methods: Archives of Hospital General Manuel Gea Gonzalez Cytopathology Division which were found to have fine needle aspiration biopsy of lymphatic nodule and histopathologic report also be made from 2003 to 2005.
Results: 249 cases were studied, 199 were found to be benign and 50 malignant. From the total (249), 62 had histologic biopsy report, from the total of benign lesions, 13 had histologic report, 10 were correlated and 3 false negative cases. From malignant cases 49 had histologic biopsy report and just one false positive case was found.
Conclusion: We had a 94.12% sensibility rate, 90.90% for specificity, 97.96% PPV and 76.92% VPN. These findings suggest that fine needle aspiration biopsy has proved to be a safe, fast and low-cost method and it is able to demonstrate benign or malignant conditions.
