Occupational contact allergic dermatitis to methacrylates

ABSTRACT
Methacrylates are low molecular weight (haptens) monomers that are used to make polymers or plastics of great demand in our daily lives. Once cured or polymerized they are not usually sensitizing, although adhesives, widely manipulated by dentists, prosthetists, orthopedic surgeons, and techniques and users of nail aesthetics. In their liquid or semiliquid state are highly dangerous. The risk does not only include sculpted nails, currently they include long-lasting nail gels and lacquers that are freely available in the market to thousands of users, creating a potential epidemic of contact dermatitis cases. We present two cases of dermatitis due to occupational contact with methacrylates.
